The Little Cat

The Little Cat That Wilfred Drove
by Gordon R. Cann

Wilfred had a little cat
You and I remember that
It had tracks for the snow
Where you steered it, it would go
This little cat hauled the freight
Always on time, never late
It hauled the groceries for the store
It hauled the whiskey and much more
It hauled the travellers in a caboose
And all good things for people’s use
It carried spuds and even wine
And good food for to dine
It carried flour for your bannock
Salt and spices so not to panic
It carried moccasins for your feet
It carried cookies for a treat
It carried candies for Halloween
It carried things you’ve never seen
It carried friends that to this day you hold dear
Friends you will remember for many a year.

Note: Wilfred refers to Wilfred Cote who hauled freight by tractor in the winter from Herb Lake Landing to Herb Lake MB. Both Wilfred Cote and Gordon R Cann have passed away.
